Good journalism colleges?

UCLA has a good broadcasting program, too. And U of Michigan is a good school!

Best advice, DO INTERNSHIPS!!!

Even though I didn’t do broadcast journalism, I worked with a couple of them. They just graduated and haven’t found jobs yet, but they’re definitely top notch.

Here’s what they did, maybe it’ll help you out. Take internships during the summer!! Do some out of town if you want, it will give you a good perspective on things. Also, work at the school paper as a writer!! I was an editor and about half of the writers were broadcast majors. The writing really helped them out on writing their stories and it gets you experience talking to people and working on deadline. Finally, if whatever school you choose has online campus videos, get involved in doing their voice overs, great experience. You probably won’t be able to apply for internships/paper until you’re in your sophomore year or higher.

As for internet journalism, I did print and internet as a concentration. In the classes I took, we just learned how to make a web site and different techniques. Anyone can post a blog or write for an online site now a days. Most people that do this concentration end up looking for jobs in web design, graphic design, something along those line.

Top 2 for Broadcast: USC Annenberg and Syracuse Newhouse. Good for written journalism: Missouri, USC, Syracuse. Good grad progam: Penn Annenberg. (Check out the quality of instructors at USC–more Pulitzer, Peabody winners than anywhere else. Also they have revamped their program to reflect the changes taking place in broadcast and written journalism. Example: Major in BJ now is “Broadcast Journalism and Digital Media.”)
