I know the ivies are good but come on, let's be realistic, not many people get inot the ivies, least of all me! If I do, cool, if I don't whatever, but what about the other med schools? What are some good med schools? Not great ones, but just good enough? Preferably on the eastern seaboard (can't see my mom letting me go that far), and I can't see myself going any farther than the midwest. What chances would I have coming from Syracuse Univ. W/ a 3.4 or 3.5 gpa?

All of them. All US medical schools are good.

Impossible to give chances or even tell you where to apply without an MCAT score.

If you apply with a 31 mcat score, your chances of getting into just 1 U.S. medical school is low…even if you apply to 15…unless you are a urm…

Well that’s just not right.

[FACTS Table: MCAT and GPA Grid for Applicants and Accepted Applicants to U.S. Medical Schools](http://aamc.org/data/facts/2008/mcatgpa-grid-3yrs-app-accpt.htm)

Applicants with MCAT scores of 30-32 have a 65% chance at admission.

Now bdm, don’t be getting all fact quoting on us and $^#%. Anyway, that there AAMC bunch is a notoriously by-assed coven of commies.

i think he meant to say all US MD schools are good

You don’t think the DO schools are good, Shraf?

i didn’t say that…but you can’t make as broad of a sweeping generalization about the strength of DO schools as you can with MD schools

also overall MD is a better option.

When the time comes you should add some geographic diversity to your list of schools to improve your chances; as a then 21 or 22 year old are you really going to let your mom dictate where you apply to schools? Sorry, but I had to ask…

Yeah, I agree with Shraf. You can make a generalization like Blue stated with allopathic schools, but cant with osteopathic schools. Schools like Rocky Vista and Touro-NY (I think?) have bad reputations.

Its probably more like 50% or less, if its 3.45/30. With a range of 3.4-3.59 + 30-32, the percentage probably slants towards 63% for people with 3.59/32.

that chart includes URM, so that might affect the percentages if the OP is non-URM. Here are URMs alone, with that range and they have 85% chance.

GPA 3.4-3.59, MCAT 30-32: 3295 admits out of 5210 applicants; 63.2%.

Id.

So it basically will not matter if I am coming from syracuse what med school i go to as long as I can the highest gpa possible. Im a sophomore in college and im just asking…I haven’t taken the mcats yet but im going to start reviewing over winter break… thanks everyone for the input btw…

857/1361 Asian applicants got in with 3.4-3.59 GPA and 30-32 MCAT, 2316 /3607 White applicants got in with those stats

Total for Whites and Asians with those stats: 3173/4968 so 63.8%

So if your white -64.2%

http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2008/MCATGPAgridWHITE.pdf

… or Asian - 63%

http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2008/MCATGPAgridAsian.pdf

Im haitian (caribbean)

I am assuming black haitian? Well you would be considered URM so 3.4/3.5 and upper 20’s will get you in somewhere. Mid 30’s can get you a scholarship.

The parent preference also makes more sense now.

^^^^
Are these charts referring to overall GPA or just BCPM GPA?
