I'm doing history right now at school. My teacher is like hecka crazy. He rushes through the slides, and I don't have the opportunity to be able to copy down everything neatly, but there's just enough time.

Anyway, I've been trying to use college rule, and I've taken up 2 lines for just like one sentence(writing in 2 lines at once). So, I'm thinking of switching to wide ruled.

Are there any cool short hand tricks you use? Would you reccomend taking extremely light notes and then writing more after class...Could you please share anything you found useful? Thanks.

Write down key facts, of course. (I'm sure you already knew that)
I wouldn't focus on neat handwriting. I too, usually write really neatly but on these occasions I don't think it's wise to try and make it look like a masterpiece. It's more like getting what you can, and neat handwriting leaves you at a disadvantage so as long as it's readable, just scribble. I did this on the SAT essay too.
If you're really twitchy about it rewrite the notes neatly after class, but while in class just go speedy.

I suggest creating an "Database" of short hand words that you can commit to memory, so you will be able to recognize each word when you go back over the notes.
Standard Shorthand works fine:

Stdrd shrthnd
Try to make it as recognizable as possible.

Or, if you really wanted to get fancy, you could write your notes in Binary :)

Ignore all of the above. In short, write messy. Get the job done.

Like people have said, don't try to be neat and use shorthand. As long as you can recognize what you're writing, that's all that matters. And if someone wants to copy your notes..they'll just have to figure it out. :) Last year I pretty much copied every single thing my history teacher had on his notes but going back I realize a lot of the information was useless (i.e. good to know background info but nothing I needed to memorize or be tested on)

Its smaller spaces, so you can fit more and write quicker. PLus you can write horizontally or vertically. Landscape of letter. Makes tables and charts a snap.

As a debater and people speaking at 300 words a minute, you need to learn to write in shorthand AND understand what they're saying.

A circle with a line through it can = Don't, Not, Can't, etc

Also, cut out superfluous marks. You don't need the middle line in A to understand. Those little marks add up. If you need to learn to speed up try doing flow drills. An example of one would be to flow a song and see how much you flowed.

Or, you could place a hardware keylogger on your teacher's computer and voila, you have all assignment and test dates for the next two months being happily relayed to your computer. :)
