What would be some insightful questions to ask to show that you did research on the college you're interested in?

...questions that you actually need answered! Seriously, be genuine in the interviews! Dont ask questions that you already have the answers to, just to show you know the college!----they can see right through that!

As an alumni interviewer, I second Neurosurgeon's comments. You can tell the scripted questions that are designed to show off research a mile away. In interviews you will be asked why you are interested in school X. That's the time to show off your research to the extent you can cite reasons that really are applicable to you.

But what if you've researched the college and read the handbook so that you really don't have any questions that need answered?

If you don't ask anything, the interviewer might think that you either didn't do any research or arent' that interested in the college itself.

That's were the dilemma arises.

If you know everything, maybe you should be the interviewer.

Chiez--Even if you know lots of alumni or lots of kids from your high school who you keep in touch with go to Yale, you have questions to ask. No internet or guide book research replaces talking to a real person.

What was your favorite thing about Yale?

Tell me about your residential college experience.

Tell me about your best academic experience at Yale.

Tell me about your best extracurricular experience.

Answers to these questions will provide tremendous insight even if you've talked to other Yalies. When I was looking at colleges, Yalies spoke in more glowing, animated, passionate terms about academics, extracurriculars, and friendships than students/alumni of other schools and this made a big impression on me. Your questions don't have to be clever.

Thank you.

It's just that so many people have gotten so hyped up about college apps that they fear asking questions that are simple but heartfelt. It's good to get a reality check every once in a while.

Thanks you guys. I'll keep this in mind.

Just be yourself. If you want to know something, ask about it.
