<p>also, as you can see, the university is actually ENCOURAGING out-of-state students to get their residency.</p>
<p>It also says my parents are allowed to provide support but they just can’t claim me as a dependant. </p>
<p>The entire process is really easier than at most other states/universities. </p>
<p>I’m taking the extra step by having all the other documentation like voting, bank account, etc</p>
<p>Friends daughter from Georgia had to sit out of college one full year and work in Alabama to gain independent status and residency.</p>
<p>^^^ Thats Alabama though. I was looking at the U of A rules for in-state qualification and they’re just crazy.</p>

<p>That contrasts with Texas where becoming a resident is actually encouraged by the admissions office and the entire process is much simpler.</p>
