Hello all! Current HS student here looking for a good school to apply to next year. I’m wanting to work at a zoo or animal sanctuary (or something similar) eventually, but most of the information I’m finding about schools is veterinary medicine in general, and I can’t figure out the specifics of different schools. Would my best bet be any good vet school (Cornell, UC Davis, etc.) or are there some that would be better for wildlife care?
My stats aren’t splendid, but I’ve got a few IBs under my belt and a 32 on the ACT. Good extracurriculars, 2 jobs, you know the gist. I’m spending the summer with my uncle, a vet at a big cat sanctuary, and am starting a gap year in August where I’ll be volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary in South America or Africa. Hopefully that’ll give me a little boost to my pretty average resume
If there aren’t any colleges that are better for exotic animal medicine, are there any schools with especially good related majors (animal conservation, languages, etc.) that could give me a leg up when applying to grad school? Or are there any near major zoos or national parks that could put me in a good spot for interning? I’ve got a school I love lined up for after my year off, and they’re holding my admission and scholarships so I don’t need any safeties.
Thanks!!
