I’m a high school junior and want to major in biology. I have average grades and am wondering if there are any SUNY schools that are good for that major
Check Buffalo. The son of a friend of mine is a biology major and is doing well there.
Stony Brook.
Would be helpful if you gave your stats (grades, SATs). “Average” isn’t a great description as it means different things to different people. Offhand, I’d say Binghamton and Stony Brook if you have the stats to get in.
I did not take my SAT’s yet, but my GPA is around 3.2
I’m wondering if the SUNY schools have a bio major where i can specialize in ecology, isn’t it better if i go to a school with a campus near wildlife parks?
Stony Brook’s campus is about a mile from a wildlife park, of sorts: Long Island Sound. For marine biology, you can’t do much better. It has a separate Department of Ecology & Evolution.
Try really hard to get your GPA up to a 3.5+ and shoot for an 1850+ SAT.
wait, which one?
Buffalo State, or the University at Buffalo(the state university of new york)
There is a very high probability that @austinmshauri was referring to the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, since you limited your question to SUNYs.
University at Buffalo is the better SUNY in Buffalo for the sciences. Buffalo State is more of a school for liberal arts, and is a well known school for those who want to go into teaching.
Since you were speaking about ecology and wildlife parks, my first instinct is SUNY ESF. They have a ranger school too. My AP bio lab partner is going to ESF for their ranger school and to get a bachelor’s degree in natural resources management. They’re also on the campus on Syracuse University, but tuition is much cheaper since it’s a SUNY. Look into it, and good luck
thank you so much your answers, they helped me a lot since I have been worrying about college lately.
SUNY Geneseo you should add to your list.
SUNY ESF.
SUNY Plattsburgh offers both a major and minor in Ecology.
