<p>I was thinking of thinking of writing about the 5 weeks I spent studying abroad while living with host families in Beijing (also, I've taken chinese for 6 years at school and am in a college chinese course this year, and I'm a white male), but a lot of the college essay books I read say "the trip" is a topic to avoid. Is my situation unique enough that I should write an essay about it?</p>
<p>if you want to write about it write about it screw the college essay books, just make sure you put passion and emotion into it</p>
