I am a Junior in high school and want to pursue a Business major, particularly one in Entrepreneurship or Economics, but I do not know where to start with my work experience. Would it be best to get work experience as an Entrepreneur? A regular office, a bank, a grocery store... a restaurant? Please help!

Start your own company. At first, start with yourself. Then a friend, a teammate. Create something wonderful.

I agree - starting your own business will provide more entrepreneurial experience than trying to work your way up at any old job, and will be a nice addition to your college applications. What are you good at? What “need” do you see in your local area, or online, whether it be a service or product? Do you know how to build a basic website for marketing and sales purposes, or sell online through other established sites? How can you network to build a following/customer base? Read about how other start-ups got started.

if you can afford not to work for pay…volunteer in the office of a local politician or in a political campaign. Volunteer to work on putting events together, project management, creating spreadsheets, constituent relations etc. It’s amazing how varied the experience can be. You may start with doing things that don’t seem too important or impressive, but once you are there you can volunteer to help on things that are interesting to you or that will give you good experience or skills…and the more you show you can do, the more you will be given to do. And all that experience translates into the real world.
