I just submitted my application for CSSI and it didn’t ask me to enter my reference info. Are reference letters only for those applying for scholarships?
@wildwhisper That’s right. If you are only applying to CSSI you do not need references/letters of recommendation.
So I just applied. DIt’s anyone know (approximately) when we hear for interviews or anything??
I applied last night for the scholarship (high school student here so the due date isn’t until tomorrow) and still haven’t received any email. I emailed them about it but have yet to hear back. How long did it take for you guys to get your confirmation email?
It took about 20 minutes for me
That’s not what I wanna hear especially not on the day before its due. Hopefully they email me back before the due date
I started filling out the one for the scholarship and CSSI and half way through I decided that I only want to do the CSSI so the one with the scholarship is “in progress” but I already submitted the other one. Does it matter at all??
For the essay question regarding youtube, what exactly do they mean? I wrote it on the basis that it’s asking “how do you use youtube” but is the question asking for the actual science and programming behind it? In that case, I don’t really know because I’ve only worked in Javascript and Java and don’t really know how websites work.
So it turns out I had made a spelling error when I put my email on the profile, and it was sent there. I fixed it but have no access to the confirmation email. Can someone please tell me what it said?

If you do not wish to receive any further e-mails, please click here.
Does anyone know by when will they get back to us for the next steps (interviews) for the application?
Anyone know why they extended the deadline?
@TheCheese No idea. I’m pretty angry they extended the deadline AFTER the deadline is over, though. If they told us earlier we would have been able to improve our application more.
What session did you all apply to? And how did you know the deadline was extended?
@engineering2015 I applied to the Cambridge session. Did anyone else also apply for the Generation Google Scholarship?
My son submitted an application for the CSSI and Generation Google scholarship. He has taken 6 CS courses - 4 in high school, 1 each at Harvard and CMU. I’m not sure but being an Asian(Indian origin) is likely not going to be in his favor but it is worth a try.
Good luck to everyone - seems like an awesome program.
@takanuva if your son does not get in, it is likely because he is overqualified (at least over-educated in CS as a rising HS senior) and over-represented in tech. I’m guessing he might even find the content a little boring based on the program description. As you say, it was worth a try, good luck.
Google CSSI and Generation Scholsrship is only applicable for underrepresented groups in computier science, as stated in the eligibility rule. Underrepresented groups include non-white, non-Asian males, handicapped, and girls( I believe or all races). Asian male is definitely not eligible…
@lethallydia I also applied to the Cambridge one. I don’t know if I can get in because I discovers some grammar mistakes on my short answers after submitting my application.
Thanks @ormdad
@fairyfantasy you are right about Generation Scholarship… oops…
But CSSI doesn’t seem to preclude any group(I think) - I am actually very excited about the program (even if my son doesn’t get in) - we definitely need more diversity in CS!!
