Got email from nyu??? Nyu-poly???

I got this email today and I am confused. Apparently, I was rejected from CAS and they want to review my application at NYU-Poly. Is NYU-Poly still NYU? Do you live on the washington square park dorms? Do you take any courses at the main campus? Is NYU-Poly good for a pre-med major? Is it still the same tuition? Do you think I will still get in? Sorry for all the questions! I'm just so confused!

Dear [name],
The Committee on Admissions has completed its review of your application for the College of Arts (CAS) and Science at New York University. I regret to inform you that the Committee did not select you for admissions to CAS.

However, we do have an alternative that we hope you will consider. Given your academic interests, we recommend that you consider Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly).

In June, 2008, the New York State Board of Regents approved a formal affiliation between New York University and the Polytechnic Institute of NYU (formerly Polytechnic University). This affiliation - a crucial step toward Poly becoming a school of NYU - re-connects NYU to engineering and technology research and education and offers significant new opportunities to the students and faculty of both campuses.

NYU-Poly’s engineering programs are accredited by ABET (Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology) and offer superior, modern laboratories to enrich students’ learning experiences. The NYU-Poly curriculum is designed to cultivate inventiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship; qualities necessary for technology leadership in the global environment awaiting its graduates. For 154 years Poly has graduated leaders in medicine, semi-conductor technology, lasers, communications and numerous other areas that have ushered in the modern world.

As affiliated schools, NYU and NYU-Poly currently have separate admissions processes. However, students who have applied to NYU who wish to be considered for admission to NYU-Poly will not have to submit all new application materials to NYU-Poly. Instead, NYU-Poly has agreed to review the application and supporting credentials you have already submitted to NYU. To enable us to forward your admissions file to NYU-Poly, we ask that you go to NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > NYU POLY Application Release Confirmation and electronically “sign” an information release form using your NYU ID number. The deadline for completing the information release form is Wednesday, March 31.

We have a “Frequently Asked Questions” flyer available at www.admissions.nyu.edu/pdf/poly/faq.pdf that should answer some of your immediate questions. In addition, the comprehensive NYU-Poly FAQ we created for NYU and Poly students is available at Page or File Not Found 404 Error. Finally, feel free to contact Kathy Jackson at Poly via email at kjackson@poly.edu or by telephone at (718) 637-5995 or Kyle Graham, Assistant Director of Admissions at NYU via email at kyle.graham@nyu.edu or by telephone at (212) 998-4548 with any additional questions.

Although we will not be able to welcome you to NYU this September, we sincerely hope that you take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to be considered by the admissions committee at our affiliated school, NYU-Poly.

1) Technically NYU Poly is not NYU. yet. It’s still affiliated with some shared services between the two.
2) No you do not live on Wash Sq.
3) I think NYU kids can take NYU Poly courses but not vice versa. Don’t quote me on that though.
4) I mean, it is focused on engineering and not so much pre-med (I think). That would be something you ask NYU Poly though.
5) You pay Poly’s rates for now.
6) Not sure. I heard it was easier to get into Poly though.

And please, do delete your N number from the post.

ahhh how do i delete it???

edit the post. bottom right corner of the post where it says reply.

it’s gone. i looked it up and it says that u cant edit it after a certain amount of time and you can’t delete it. what should I do??!?!

ehhh. not sure really. its not too serious but like, its still linked to your application.

I think it might be a good deal.
Right now it is in transition to become part of NYU. In a few years I am sure it will be formally part of it. Now it is cheaper? and student competition is not as high. I say it is a good timing to be part of it.

davincifan…I went ahead and removed your N number from the post.

thanks lenitus! I was freaking out there for a second. Thanks for being so speedy!

At the scholars dinner at Poly yesterday, the Poly academics heads said something like, “Polytechnic-NYU will become NYU…Polytechnic in 2012.” If that makes sense. In other words, we’re not official-official until fall 2012.

 1. fact
 2. fact
 3. false. nyu students may take courses at poly.
 4. mostly true. it’s not a bad place to do pre-med
 5. fact
 6. fact

umm what you wrote is what I wrote…so I don’t see how number 3 is false. lol. maybe you meant poly kids could also take classes at nyu and that would mean my statement is false? idk.

yeah, you said “but not vice versa.” It is totally also vice versa lol
