Got my score, have some questions..

So I scored a 1520, which to some of you is pretty terrible, but to me is only ~300 points lower than what I'd be happy with. My question was I got a 570 and 530 in Reading and Math respectfully. My lowest score was a 420 in Writing because my essay was absolute garbage. If I were to focus on Writing and scored a 600 on it next time I take, will colleges consider my raw score to be 1700 (570 + 530 + 420)?

Thank you.

Some colleges superscore. Look into the colleges you want to apply to and look into their policy of superscoring. :)

A lot of schools “superscore” your SATs. Meaning that you send in all your SAT sessions and they pick the highest score from each section, regardless of which date it is from. Many colleges do this, but the more selective universities and colleges may not. Normally you will see this stipulation when they say “a score of SoandSo obtained in one sitting”. Visit the school’s website and look up its policies on SAT/ACT scores. If you’re not 100% rock solid on what the policy is, send an e-mail and ask.

In short, it depends on the college you’re applying to, but it is common.

P.S I’ve heard that some colleges even “superscore” between ACT and SAT results! It’s mentioned this video from Virginia Tech’s website. I’m not sure how common this is, but it would be good to check, just in case!
