One thing that may have caused you to be rejected, is that they vast majority of your ECs are started in the 11th grade, which is about the time that people start thinking about college. Perhaps they felt that you were only doing things to get into Yale, not because you really wanted to do them.

Well your scores are great and you're a great candidate. however, if one ivy league rejects you, there a slim chance any others will, especially Harvard. sry to break it to u. but w/e, theres plenty of other great schools like state universities, college is about what you make of it, not where you go

^ i actually think that people who get rejected at yale often have great chances at the 5 ivies besides HYP

Not everybody who gets rejected by Yale have "great chances" at other Ivies

However, at the same time, all the ivies are super picky! Again what turns adcomms off at Yale, could be the very thing Princeton and Harvard adcomms are looking for!

When you get down to it, it is all about one's personality and essay. Most applicants are all very competitive and unbelievably good on paper... However, the only thing that really makes distinct differences is the essay and how you present yourself.

:) Also keep in mind that the system of admissions is flawed. Humans read the application, and all humans have some biased views. Therefore, one should never rule out the possibility that your regional rep or the adcomm just didnt like you!

Yale seems to be incredibly unpredictable. The valedictorian of the class of 2009 at my high school didn't take a single AP class and filled his resume with (as I like to say) minutia. It is also hard to believe that he got good recommendations from teachers as students and teachers alike complain of his pompous and hyperbolic personality. Yet he was the only student to get into an ivy league (and Yale at that) so far this year. I bet you could get into Harvard, though your lack in community service is worrisome. Good Luck and congrats on your SAT scores; I could only wish that mine were so outstanding!

I got rejected by Yale, another kid who is valedictorian at his school got deferred. If he gets in, I will be ****ed because he has been arrested (he corrected a cop's grammar) but amused at the same time. I honestly have no idea what Yale looks for, so don't worry about it at all. Good luck with Harvard everyone!

While it is something of a crapshoot at all the top schools, the dice are loaded in your favor overall.

Methinks that you will get in to H.

Your information looks good, you seem to be a very smart educated student, however your volunteer work and community service lacks, and that is a big thing colleges look for!!!

Sorry to put a damper on your questions, but the OP applied last year and is in college already. I highly doubt he/she still needs advice on college apps…

wow, it’s really toss-up
i wonder where the op ends up

you’re a beast. i just hope you get admitted somewhere you would like to go whether it is harvard, mit or princeton or some other toptier =)

I think he may have wound up at Williams, but I’m not sure.

I thought Yale SCEA results didnt come out until December 15th
