gpa and employment

Does our college gpa matter a lot when we apply for jobs?
(like is there a lot of difference between 3.3~4.0?)

And does our gpa for breadth course matter?.......
I mean if I'm a math major why does it matter that I got a B- in American History?..

I think GPA matters for some jobs, like if you’re applying to be an engineer or something, it’d probably matter more. But I think GPA is not the most important factor, so I don’t think they would NOT hire you if you had a 3.3. However, having a high GPA never hurts. And leave a 3.0 or less off your resume. That would definitely hurt you.

The GPA you put on resumes is your overall GPA. If you got a B average in all your breadth courses and all As on your math courses, it’d would bring your overall GPA down, and the people who hire you won’t have access to your transcript, just your overall GPA. So yes it does matter.

If your overall GPA is significantly lower than your major GPA. On your resume, I would write, instead of

 • GPA: x.xx

I would write:

 • Major GPA: x.xx

This way, you’re not deceiving anyone, and if they ask, just explain. But at least that’ll get your foot into the door :)

3.7 is the magic number.
