Does anyone have any idea what the cutoffs are for graduating with honors? Weinberg's website says the top five percent graduate "summa cum laude," the next eight percent "magna cum laude," and the next twelve percent "cum laude." I know they recalculate it every year, but I'm wondering if I can figure out a ballpark estimate. Would anyone who's graduated or who has a child who graduated feel comfortable sharing what their final GPA was, and whether they got honors for it?

I'm probably way too low, but just curious.

My son had a GPA of 3.89 last year and was Magna Cum Laude. We think he must have narrowly missed Summa since a friend of his the previous year with a GPA of 3.9 was Summa.

^yes, the cutoffs change every year. Here is what they say on Weinberg site -

"Beginning in August 2010, students whose cumulative GPAs are in the top five percent of their Weinberg College graduating class will graduate “summa cum laude”; those in the next eight percent will graduate “magna cum laude”; and those in the next twelve percent will graduate “cum laude.” These percentages may be shifted slightly up or down at the discretion of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs to take into account ties for a given rank.

Cut-offs for Latin Honors are recalculated once each year based on GPAs of June graduates. These cut-offs then apply to students graduating through March of the subsequent year. "

Does anyone have additional insight on this? I also know of someone who graduated last year (2014) with a 3.9 who was magna, so maybe it is increasing every year…
