I am a Middle Eastern Studies and History major at UT-Austin, and upon graduation I want to work in the State Department/CIA. I currently have a 3.6 GPA - is that high enough? What is considered a "good" or "great" GPA in the major?

3.0 is a common minimum I’ve seen. 3.5+ is “great.”

Strong Arabic language skills would be more valuable than any sort of GPA that you have if you are interested in that line of work. But to answer your question, a 3.6 is great.

I agree with Sligh_Anarchist, if you can speak Arabic well and write/read then that’s more important than your GPA. Especially since the government is looking for people who are literate in Arabic. Should do some study abroad trips to the Middle East and actually utilize the stuff you learn in class.
