My oldest S is currently a sphomore at Stanford studying CS. He asked about the Coterm program and they said if he has 3.5 GPA, he was pretty much in. With a 3.4 he would be competing with others but still had a very good chance at getting in and with anything lower he would be evaluated with the outside applications. They also said guidelines for outside applicants depended on the rigor of the university they came from. Just letting you know what he was told.

^thanks tripletime. That kinda sucks for us NoName Uni students. They say it what matters most is your grad degree, not undergrad degree, but obviously our undergrad degree influences the grad degree admissions. My school is decent, but only regionally known (and small region, I might add). HYPSM might think it’s akin to U of Phoenix, just because they have never heard of it.

My gut says 3.5+ is a “competitive” GPA for graduate schools. Anything 3.0+ is probably not a deal-breaker. When you get into 3.0- territory, I think you start running he risk of lots of programs throwing the application out. The honest truth is that there are enough people applying to grad programs with good GPAs, plus all the other stuff, that they don’t usually need to make large trade-offs.
