GPA for top masters schools

So I want to get my masters in Earth/environmental sciences and I have been looking at a ton of schools, but the programs that really stand out to me are MIT and Stanford. At first I figured I wouldnt have a chance, but I hear that M.S. program admissions are less strict than for PHD.

So does anyone know what a competitive gpa would be for a masters at schools like MIT or Stanford? I have a UCSD gpa in Earth Science of around 3.4, and unless something happens I should graduate with around the same. MAYBE a 3.5. I have 2 summers of internship/research. I also went on a UCLA archaeological field school.

PS: I went to community college and got a gpa of only 3.2 with 2 Ws (dont ask)

Should I even bother applying or just look elsewhere?

in this economy, apply, but look elsewhere. Stanford and MIT are safety nets right now for top students who can't find a job.

It will vary by department, and since I know only engineering I will say that the top grad schools consider 3.5 to be competitive for an MS.
