GPA: Ivies or Normal Public School?

As most of you may know, in order to even qualify for applying to med schools, one must be above a certain gpa, that number usually being around 3.6-3.7.

Now if one were to go to an Ivy, their gpa will most likely be lower than if they had gone to a large public school. So for a pre-med student, would it be more beneficial to recieve a high gpa at a lower tier school (though still well known), or go to an ivy and recieve a lower gpa (but with ivy prestige)? I heard for example that the average dartmouth gpa is 3.4, lower than what is required for med.

This is all in terms of med school admission. Comments please.

Thanks!

Flip that statement. Except for Cornell, the GPA you'd get from an Ivy is going to be higher than one from Berkeley. Also, it seems that the GPA required is not commensurate with the rigor of the school; a 3.4 (good) from MIT is practically equal to a 3.4 (average) from Harvard.

SQL - Princeton has significant grade deflation across the board, so its not just Cornell and MIT that will have a lower average GPA.
