How significant is GPA towards considering admission toward BSMD programs (specifically TCNJ)?
If my school only has weighted GPA, what should I strive for weighted wise? I know they look for 3.8+ UW (3.9+ for high chances) but since my school doesn’t have it, should I strive for a 4.5+ weighted GPA?
Pertaining to my school’s lack of UW GPA, do they still consider students that don’t have a UW (specifically TCNJ)?
Thanks!
Programs that only consider your unweighted GPA will recalculate your GPA based upon the grades on your transcript.
To find your unweighted GPA yourself, first only list your core coursework. Core courses are those in English/language arts, math, social science, science and foreign languages. Do NOT include courses in vocational ed, PE, health, performance-based classes (art, music, drama/theater, creative writing), student aide, sports training, medical terminology, internships, etc.
Next write down the grade earned in your core classes and assigned a quality point value to each based upon the chart below:
A+ 4.0
A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D 1.0
F 0.0
Do not add the extra quality points often given for honors or AP classes into your calculations.
Once you have your list of core classes & unweighted grades, you can use an online GPA calculator to find your true unweighted GPA.
Don't know specifically about TCNJ, but all BS/MD program place a lot of emphasis on GPA since it reflects the applicant's ability to perform well academically.
