GPA vs. ACT/SAT

In yall's opinion, do you think a school is more likely to accept a student with a high gpa and low test scores or (in my opinion the more common) low gpa and high test scores with every other part of the application being equal: ECs, essays, recs, etc..?

I’ve often heard that schools place more emphasis on the tests, but this is usually when people are trying to console me (I am among the latter of the two groups you mentioned).

My intuition tells me they really care more about the GPA, however.

that is the case with almost everyone i’ve talked to!

do you think that colleges notice this as well? I’m among the former of the two and think maybe this is a good thing because it’s “rare-er”?

Grade’s don’t mean anything. All the grade-grubbers in my AP physics class kissed so much ass all got As in the class and got like 600s on the subject test. I got a B and got an 800. I hate grade-grubbers.

I think it depends on the high school. If the high school is relatively unknown to the college, then the admissions committee will probably place more emphasis on the applicants’ test scores because they are standardized. Also in general, I believe that high test scores are crucial, but a lower average GPA is alright, for admission into top colleges. Test scores are a better measure of potential, I believe. GPA can be influenced by how hard one works and, like a user mentioned above, the amount of “grade-grubness” of the student.

Meteman, it’s nice to see that we can agree on something. I also despise grade-grubbers.
