GPA vs. SAT (Running Tally)

From an international perspective, I would definitely say that SAT plays the more important role. US colleges might not be familiar with other educational boards such as Cambridge and EDEXCEL boards. The SAT is the yardstick by which all internationals can be compared to domestic applicants.

aak, I disagree. Many international applicants do horribly on CR and W sections of the SAT (but usually do well on the M section). That is what the TOEFL is for.

And before aak, I agree with the last 3 posters.

I don’t believe I need to know how to hypothesize the carrying capacity of Africa to be a production director at ESPN…

SAT essay score should be the only criteria for college admissions.

SAT, and class rank over GPA.

hahaha i set up this thread to be different from all the other million threads arguing this issue… and i get ALL explanations and arguments. Hahaha, it’s okay though… very amussing. So 3 pages later… the score still remains…
and GPA also means class rank/rigor/your performance in high school directly btw

GPA: 0
SAT: 0

GPA is more important and should be more important. When I was in high school I would have said SAT because of my 3.17/2150 stats, but then I got turned down by Santa Cruz (82% acceptance rate) and went to community college to get good grades.

It should be important because it shows how hard you work. Most of life isn’t about being intelligent, it’s about working hard.

GPA by far. It doesn’t matter if you scored a 2300 on the SAT, if you can’t do your homework and projects then you’re going to fail school, regardless of how “intelligent” you appear on a test. Nothing should be simply handed to someone based on pure “skills” alone. Those that want to get into college should work for it, no questions asked. GPA is not a joke, if you got bad grades in school then you’re lazy. Colleges should NOT accept lazy students.

Maybe some of you don’t understand how the world works but you have to put effort to succeed in any field. It doesn’t matter how innate your skill level is.

Exactly. Your GPA should show your work ethic over 4 years. Who cares if you can score high on a test or have a high amount of natural intelligence, but chose not to harvest it?

I have no sympathy for kids who may be naturally smart, but lazy and choose not to do the work. There are plenty of kids like that at my school and I benefit from them because I struggle for my grades and I’m a decent, not great test taker(27 ACT first time).

the SAT’s is similar to an IQ test. if she was really smart, she wouldve got an awesome grade. that shows that she just studies alot and isnt naturally smart.

im junior so i havent taken the SAT’s yet, but i tooken the SAT II’s and recieved between 680-750 on them

SAT!
GPA will vary geographically, while the SAT will always stay the same
