GPA vs tough courseload

Although not my strongest subject, I like math and do well in it. I have been on the "accelerated" (advanced) math path since forever, and have had all As and one A- in the past years. But this year (I am a Junior), Accelerated PreCalc has been extremely tough and my first semester grade was terrible. It is considered one of the hardest courses in the school, but still, is it stupid to let my GPA suffer for taking this challenging course?

it is not stupid at all to take challenging courses. it wouldn't matter if you have been in all regular classes have a 4.0 GPA. it's better to show colleges that you are willing to take on harder subjects and if you stumble a little at first, the trick is to show colleges that you can improve.

if you can pull that grade up second semester, colleges will appreciate that you rose to the challenge.

... you're your strongest subject?

Just finish the class and work hard at it for second semester. To finish the course with a less-than-perfect but improved grade is WAY preferable to dropping the course.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try my best.
