Grad safety schools

For Chemistry. Do you know any? I just wanna make sure i apply in all safety colleges plus some hard to get ones. My is GPA is 3.10

the following i would consider safety schools which nevertheless have good chemistry graduate programs (ranked top 20-50 in 2002)

u of washington (seattle)
u of texas (austin)
colorado state
u of arizona
u of maryland college park
u of florida
u of cal irvine (borderline safety)
u of cal san diego (even more borderline)
u of cal davis
u of cal santa barbara
u of south cal
iowa state
michigan state
emory
duke
SUNY
washington u in st. louis
u of virginia

i suggest you apply to no more than 3 safeties -- otherwise you'll just waste time and money -- apply to 3 places your level and 4-8 places you think are above your level -- it is easy to underestimate your level so make sure to consult someone before applying -- yet it is always good to shoot high

gpa doesn't say much - i had relatively low gpa yet got into 2 of top 5 chemistry grad schools (chooooooice ...[drooling])

thanks sooooooooo much.

Up and comming University which is a tier 1 research status and is not that hard to get into (when I went to grad school there for chemistry, they supported all students with full tuition and stipend with TA's and research)

http://web1.cas.usf.edu/MAIN/program_detail.cfm?id=147&program_id=40&program_level=1&DeptId=0-1213-000

Excellent school if you just want to get a MA/MS:

http://www.oswego.edu/academics/colleges_and_departments/departments/chemistry/graduate/index.html

thanks a lot.

One of the problems with applying to safety schools is that if you get in with funding, you have to decide if you actually want to go there! I've also seen students rejected at safety schools and get into top programs.

With a 3.1 and at least a 1000 on your SAT's you'll get into the PhD program at South Florida, with funding I am pretty sure. The school is up and comming, tier 1 research and just joined the Big East sports conference. Within 10 years, the name will be on par with Florida State, West Virginia, etc. Now is the time to get in there, actually. I would seriouslly give the school an application! By the way, I got my MA in chemistry from there and I was fully funded.

thanks Tom

I have added south florida and West Virginia to my list. I am sure going to apply there. I just need to get in anywhere.

Thanks again so much
