Grad school app timing

Hey, I had a question regarding the whole grad school applying process. Most schools require an application sometime in the fall and the usually reply sometime in march or april. Well my question is how does one juggle this with applying to schools? A lot of recruiting for jobs is done for graduates in the fall too. If one gets a job offer etc, how do they juggle this with a pending grad school admission? I have no idea chances of getting in and if I will get into some programs, and I plan on going through the whole job recruiting process in the fall.

In addition I am not applying to too many schools because if I can't get into a school atleast on the par of my current undergrad I don't see myself going to grad school anytime soon. So essentially no safeties...
This is for engineering if it makes any difference.

I don’t know if this makes a difference job-wise, but I got all of my graduate admission decisions in January and February. I spent most of March traveling to the universities that had offered to pay for a visit, and my decision whether or not to attend was due on April 15 (the nationally agreed-upon reply deadline).

I’ll let other people comment on how to negotiate job contracts while applying to grad school since that wasn’t a concern for me.

Yea, that does make it a bit better. Though there still can be possibilities of clashes. Anyone ever run into a situation like that? Or do most people who apply to grad schools just apply to grad schools and no full time positions?
