Grad School Letters of Rec

I’m applying to grad school for electrical eng and I’m looking to get letters of recommendation. My question is: Is it normal for your recommending professors to not know your name but still give you good recommendations? The thing is I’ve done projects with these professors and done well in their classes. I’m just not very good at the ‘making a personal relationship’ thing.

A letter of recommendation is not so much personal as professional. The best letters are those form faculty you have done research with so that they have a chance to evaluate your abilities out side a formal classroom setting. If you don’t have this kind of letter writer then you will have to make do with the faculty whom you have taken courses from.

When you talk to the professors give them a resume so they have some background information to go off.
