I trying to decide to go to grad school for engineering or to go to med school. I studied biochemistry and aerospace engineering and I'm now at the point where I have to decide between my two interests. I know I could be happy doing either so if anyone who has done either could give me some insight that would be very helpful.

Insight from others matters less. The question is: Do you want to be a doctor, or do you want to be an engineer? Med school and grad school for engineering lead to very different career paths. Also, how the grad school experience is is less relevant because that won’t take up a very large part of your life (2 years for engineering, 5 if you want a PhD; 4 years for med school). Yes, you will have a residency and perhaps a fellowship in medicine, but those are more like working than anything else.

Engineering and medicine are also pretty different careers. Are you working as an engineer? If so, then you have a taste of what engineering school is like. If not, try to get a job as an engineer, and then volunteer at a hospital on the weekends. Do you like it?

Most people can be happy doing more than one thing; it’s about choosing one or the other, or about finding a way to meld the two together so you can do both (like biomedical engineering).
