The only graduate school she should consider is the School of Hard Knocks. She should graduate, find a job and work for a while until she finds what she wants to do. There is no career in being a professional student.

please remember I was asking for a friend - not my kids - both of whom had clear defined goals and were told - you get 4 years kid and then good luck. I have tried to be tactful describing this super senior. ok, thanks.

The kid got through college. That is an accomplishment, even if it did take an extra semester (pretty common). Now she needs to figure out the best way to leverage the education. I’ve heard that an intersting way to do that is to work via a temp agency. Of course that wouldn’t provide steady income and would probably require living at home. But so does unemployement.

Graduating without a job presents challenges for health insurance if the parent’s policy requires student status. Many college will allow you to get a student policy even if taking just one course.

CO Mom…I’m not sure the above is true. The OP states the kid will graduate in December. BUT later posts say she doesn’t have a major, only three minors. That being the case she might NOT graduate. Someone needs to find that out.

I agree…anything BUT grad school. For grad school, you apply to a specific PROGRAM…if you don’t know what it is, it will be tough to do the application.

And an FYI about the Peace Corps…depending on the location of the volunteer, some get issued a Blackberry. It’s unbelievable what the new technology is like. Re: the hair dryer daily…that is unessential.

Quite a few schools (my son’s, Ole Miss, being one) count three minors as a “general studies” major.

Is your friend asking you for advice?
If not I would stick to the smile and nod approach.

I have to say- it cracks me up that as soon as I mention* are they asking you for advice*?, the thread shuts down.

;)

sorry - it wa our 34th anniversary and dh gets grouchy when I ignore him for imaginary friends.

yes, the mom did ask for advice. the daughter didn’t. but the mom did. the d wants to go to Europe with some program that sounds fun.

daughter’s school does accept 3 minors as a major.

that being said, I really really need to work on the smile and nod…
