Grade deflation or inflation?

Is UofT an inflator or deflator?

deflatioion big time. but that only makes it challenging.

so going to UofT for pre-law to get into UofT law school is a bad idea?

U of T does not have a 'pre-law' program. In fact, most law schools suggest that you do not take an actual pre-law program. The decision whether or not to go to U of T for undergrad should be made without consideration of how it will affect your chances at U of T law. Many U of T undergrads get into U of T law each year. One of my daughters is in 1L after graduating from U of T last spring. You should choose your undergrad course of study by determining what interests you. When you enjoy your classes, you are likely to work harder and perform better, which, in the long run, will help you achieve a good gpa. Many high school students who start off planning for law school change their minds along the way. :) And, many do not end up with the grades and LSAT score that is needed. U of T is an excellent school. If you're a good student, independent, and hard working, you will do well there.

I can say the deflation rumour is FALSE! UofT on the most part is FAIR in its grading. the school admits a lot of people, some brilliant, others let's say less so. So obviously to uphold it's academic reputation and prestige, its got to maintain a rigorous curriculum. Many students who snuck through the cracks during the admission process can't handle it and leave (most in their first year).
*I am not an A student, so i don't think my comments are biased

If you want to do Law, i think it'll be more helpful to attend a school w/ a pre-law program and smaller class sizes. but like alwaysamom says, UofT is an excellent school and if you are a good student, you will excel

Yeah, I've been dissauded profusely by a number of people to not go to Canada for pre-med/dent because of the killer grading curves at uToronto and McGill.

We parents were forwarned during the Welcome Event after my D's acceptance in 2007 to prepare ourselves for the grading system. While we may have been used to seeing A performance from our kids, that was going to change.

And gosh if it isn't true!

... and we've seen B+'s get downscaled to C+'s!

hmm... i really don't know, maybe it's different for my program (commerce first year). but generally wtv grade i get, i get. the tests are really really hard, now that's for sure, but one time i got 84 on an econ test (that's an A-) and i got that 84 fair and square... i got the test back and looked at how the mark it and everything... but anyway that was after studying weeks in advance and doing all the pasts tests and stuff, so yeah, it's really hard.
