BU is definitely notorious for it's unforgiving graade curves; is NEU like that as well? I'm sure not at the same level as BU, but a little better? Or does it really depend on what courses you take?

Anywhere I can find stats on last year's graduating class's average GPA and % of students with A's, B's..... etc?

THANKS! :)

From what I’ve researched Northeastern students do not suffer from grade deflation but a slight grade inflation. Bumppp- if any current students could comment on this I would like to know the answer too( I was accepted EA and am curious as well.)

Completely by class and by professor. I’ve taken classes where it was hard to get anything before a B, and I’ve taken classes that bell-curved everyone to a C-- something that makes an A ridiculously hard to get.

Even determining an A is sometimes up to the professor. There is an official school policy, but I’ve had professors that say 92% and up is an A and I’ve had professors that say you need to have 95% and up to get an A.

very rare. I’m a middler who skipped most freshman requirements. the only class I’ve had “deflated” (it actually ended up inflating my grade when put on a bell curve) was an upper level junior/senior biolgy course I took this semester. most classes inflate grades. for byb organic chemistry 1 &2 my grades were terrible, i failed exams, yet I pulled B’s.

don’t compare BU and Northeastern. they aren’t the same. BU DOES deflate grades. Northeastern doesn’t unless you have a jerky prof. personally I find the academics at Northeastern to be extremely challenging. when I came here 3 years ago I feared it wouldn’t be difficult enough for me. I was so wrong! NU’s a hard school and it’s very well respected!!

Hard sciences tend to inflate, from what I’ve seen. When I was a chem major, everything was pulled really high up (50% became A- in one class).

Yeah. Hard sciences inflate for sure. my roommate is a Business major and I think they inflate some grades to. not nearly as much as the sciences, but they do. grade deflation is not common, and if it is, trust me you’ll hear about it. when you ask around about your professors for the term, you’ll hear if a professor is a hard grader, etc.
I had a prof for a philosophy class that I heard was a notoriously hard grader, but in reality she just played favorites. I got a 100% in the class while others got Cs, as an example.

Yeah, agreed. And I’ve noticed that my professors that were “deflators” or “hard graders”, it was more about how hard the class was and the fact that they DIDN’T inflate. So for example if the class was super hard and everyone got around 70%, the professor was labelled as deflating the grades because he didn’t curve any grade up.
