Is making a bad decision better than making no decision at all?

A person’s life can be solely dependent on the decisions one makes. Whether the outcome shows a desired effect or not, there is always a lesson to be learnt from any kind of decision made. A decision being classified as a ‘bad’ one depends on the individuals’ wants, meaning that a bad decision for a certain person may not reflect the ideas of others too. As a decision always provides us with food for thought, I believe making a bad decision is better than making no decision at all.

During my schooling years, there was a time when I chose music as my final subject. Only after a year did I realize music was unnecessary for my future, thus I wasted a year, which I could have used to learn chemistry instead. It was too late when I figured that chemistry was the one to pick all along. Through the mistake I made, I learned to thoroughly discuss important matters as such with peers and family before assiduously jumping into conclusions. Although my mistake cost me a crucial subject that could have been handy, it transformed me to a more vigilant person; which would be a bigger gain if I don’t make any more severe mistakes in the future.

Secondly, decision-making is the process of sufficiently reducing uncertainty and doubt about alternatives to allow a reasonable choice to be made from them. This definition emphasizes the information gathering part of decision-making. Uncertainty is reduced rather than being fully eliminated which means there is always risk involved. For instance, businessmen take a chance with every new investment. It may turn out to be extremely profitable or a total failure in today’s unpredictable market. But without taking this risk, one cannot gain a wide range of investing experience. A decision regardless of the outcome brings maturity and experience in the field of knowledge, benefitting the decision maker and peers around him.

The effects of a bad decision ranges depending on how much it meant to the person. However the wisdom and experience one can earn from such cases can play a much crucial role to them in the future.
