Grade of D in AP US History

students with documented ADHD that impacts their ability to learn in some manner are placed on 504 plans, not IEPs. Was he ever given any accommodations in school?

my d, (inattentive ADD, had a 504) started AP USH with a teacher who didn’t really teach, simply tested them in every class, expecting them to have read the material. my d found the teaching style a poor fit for her and felt overwhelmed and wanted to drop the class, the teacher pushed back. she asked for my support and we met with the teacher and gc, (very early on-say first 3 wks) teacher stated she needs to get used to this “this is how college classes are taught, testing in every class” I shared that I never had a college or grad school class like that, which fortunately was supported by d’s gc. d was then permitted to drop the class. I hoped the gc had a word with the teacher after our conference as clearly he was impacting many kids with what seemed like a fairly lazy teaching approach. only class my d ever felt the need to drop…

The reactions on this thread are interesting. I’m not sure I see a grading problem. AP US History is more challenging organizationally than any other class the parent listed. It usually involves managing a number of deadlines and a lot more reading and writing than any of the other classes mentioned. It’s too bad the student couldn’t raise the 3rd quarter grade a bit, even to a C, but what’s done is done.

Back to the original question… I think UFL may be a reach but he has a good chance at FL State. One of my kids was accepted there with a much lower gpa, one D on transcript, but higher scores. He needs to work on his test scores. Did he try the SAT?

OP, none of my kids’ schools would have given an IEP to a kid whose only disability was ADHD, had a 3.6 uw and an IQ of 130. (And I’m not sure special ed is appropriate in those cases.) Does your son actually have trouble across the board in school? (Those grades don’t seem to reflect that.) If so, you could have sought a 504 for accommodations.
