I was wondering how much a negative grade trend affects someone if their GPA is still very high. I'm a second semester junior and my first B was last semester in a very difficult class. This semester I may be getting anywhere from 1 to 3 b's while still maintaining a 3.9+ GPA and a 4.5+ W GPA. So...should I start caring about my trend or is the overall GPA what is important? I will still be in the 10% even with 3 b's this semester.

If upward grade trends are looked on favorably, I'm inclined to think that downward trends would be viewed equally unfavorably.

Think about it: downward grade trends either show increasing lazyness or incapability to deal with more difficult classes...

I don't think one or two B's is a big deal. An overall "trend" downward, however, might be. If you're not getting As this year, try to bring it up next year. :)

What constitutes a as a trend?

IMO, it would be like getting all As sophomore year, then getting some Bs junior year, then getting more Bs or some Bs and a C senior year.

Obviously this is all coming from someone with no real knowledge of the admit process, but that's what the explanation came off as to me.

Anyone know for sure?

I thought colleges didn't even get to see your senior grades until after they have accepted you...or is that only second semester grades?

Colleges expect junior year to be tougher. You are still achieving at a very high level. Get the best grades you can and, if you are still worried about your 4.5-ish GPA after a while, lay off of these forums for a while until you start to feel better. If you cannot stop worrying, ask your HS GC how you are doing within the context of your high school. A level work at one school is not necessarily A level work at another.
