Grades for Ivy League College

I wanted to ask you if you think it would be a problem getting into an Ivy League College with a couple of B’s in my freshmen year?

Possibly. It’s all going to depend on what you do going forward.

It is possible but you need to understand that It is very difficult to get into Ivy and equivalent colleges even with perfect grades, perfect standardized tests etc… The Ivy schools generally accept under 10% of all applicants.

It is way too early to think about specific colleges (especially the hyper-competitive ones). You seem to have just one full year’s GPA and you have no standardized testing. You also need to recognize that HS should be an experience in and of itself – a time of learning and growth and not just a 4 year college application prep experience.

It is good to take school seriously and know that college will be on your horizon, but it is too early to start planning for specific colleges. I would highly recommend that you get off of CC until your junior year.

For now you should focus on:
–Working hard, learning, and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Continue your involvement in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.

When the time comes asses your academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be happy to attend. You need to expand your horizons and recognize that there are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.

It depends. If you’re a recruited athlete and those freshman B’s are the only blemish on your record, it won’t be a problem. If you’re currently a freshman and you continue making B’s you should probably apply elsewhere.

I don’t think it’ll be an issue… I got in with a C and a few Bs. Focus on your ECs if your academic performance is solid, and get good test scores. The Ivies want people of character, not just a bunch of nerds

what college did u attend?

You’re fine. Show a upward trend, meaning that if you got three Bs freshman year, get 1 in your sophomore year and none in your junior year.

There are more than 3,000 universities and colleges in the US. There are a hundreds that are very strong. You shouldn’t focus on the 8 Ivy League schools. The Ivy League schools are a good match for only a small handful of students, and many students who would have done well there don’t get in but nonetheless do very well at other excellent universities.

At this point, focus on high school. Keep ahead of your work, pay attention in class, take classes that make sense for what you are interested in, and do ECs that you like to do. I doubt that a couple of B’s freshman year will matter one way or another for Ivy League schools, but there definitely will be many very good universities and colleges for which two B’s freshman year won’t matter much at all.
