Also, what does it mean to be a low match/match/high match/ reach?

bumpppppppppppppppppppppppp

I hardly consider a single C for one semester of your Freshman year to be devastating enough to drastically impact your admissions at any of those schools.

You’ll likely be fine. Some of the schools that you listed, for example Stanford and UC Berkeley, don’t consider the freshman year grades anyways. They might look at it, but I don’t think it’s something to worry about overmuch.

Got into MIT with a B+, A-, A- in freshman math, so it can be done!

Thank you guys so much for your answers.
I really really really appreciate your help
You guys made me feel a ton better
yayitsme-nice job!!! what are you majoring in?
how do you think the b’s will affect me? I realize I have a lot…

Were you high freshman year?

OT: Upward trends are good. Your GPA is good even with freshman year. And I’m pretty sure freshman year grades aren’t a heavy factor in college admissions.

What do you mean by high?
I don’t do drugs lolol
My dad was having a real hard time since he was sick and he had to travel to Portland OR every single week for work
And my mom was a complete wreck because of it
It kinda reflected in my grades
I guess your parents yelling like crazy in the next room when you study isn’t really a good thing

Also,
I was kinda worried about how colleges might look at my transcript since I’ll only have two years of Spanish. What do you guys think?

bump bump bump bump bumpity bump

can someone please answer my question? sorry if i’m being annoying

You already have a list of colleges, why don’t you look on their sites and see what they say about it? My guess is, they will not like only 2 years of a language, especially considering you’re only taking 6 classes this year, and only 4 of them are academic, so why did you drop Spanish?

I had to drop spanish in order to take AP Bio. I’m really interested in Biology and I wouldn’t have room for it otherwise.

OHMYGOSH I forgot to mention that I’m doubling up with AP Bio and Honors Physics this year, which I have an A in so far.

whoops

Well, that’s a good reason, but have you checked your graduation requirements? Your schedule would not earn a diploma in our school (3 years language required, or 2 each of 2 languages). Also, you should look carefully at the language requirements of your chosen colleges. I don’t think those science APs will help you in the long run if you’ll be required to take language classes in college, or if you don’t even meet the admission requirements. Better to finish the language in high school and take the science in college because high school science APs really aren’t the equivalent of the college classes and students often end up retaking those same classes anyhow.

The C in freshman year will not harm you that much, not even at top colleges like Stanford. They understand that you were still adjusting to high school - besides, an upward trend looks wonderful in almost any case.

That said, I would be more concerned with the language credits. Most colleges I know either formally require three years or recommend it.

Okay thanks!
I could take spanish three online over the summer, and I can take spanish 4 senior year
would that work?

I’m really sorry if I’m being annoying but
bummp bump bump bump bump

Go through the list of all those colleges and look to see what they say about foreign languages. Some may not care (although they might require you to get to a certain level of proficiency). I think 3 years is quite commonly expected by top colleges. Once you know what the colleges you like are looking for, I’d discuss with your parents and counselor the best way to achieve that.
