Grades!

Most teachers at my school don’t give 100’s bc itll make them look like easy teachers. What they do is take your test grades, then mark it down a 2-3 points for your final grade…anyone else have that?

Also, my English teacher makes our grades so everyone in the class gets an 88, and the highest person gets a 90…for example, most of my friends averages in the class are 50’s, but mine is a 90, so I keep the 90 and they get curved 30+ points…is this normal?

H. US II-97 (most of my tests were 100’s)
AP Gov-99
AP Lang-95
Pre-Calc-92
Spanish IV-94
H.Physics-95( idk really, he only input 2 grades for the MP)

Man! I really have to step my game up.

GPA: I’m ashamed, so I’m not even going to bother.

The only class I’ve made a 100 in so far, as my overall grade in high school is Geometry.

So far this semester, as in my third quarter grades for these classes.
H. Algebra 2: 100
H. English 10: 100
French 2: 100
Sports & Entertainment Marketing: 97

Probably won’t keep it up though, since I’m getting really lazy and not doing homeworkk until I get to school.

Last Semester:
H. Civics/Economics: 98
H. Biology: 96
Journalism: 96
Art 2: 98

I’m curious how someone can get 100 in several subjects! that means not a single mistake, esp. never forgot to turn anything in would me a major challenge for my d. she is in middle school now. From time to time she has missing homework or (strangely) classwork. She’s never got a 100 in any subject so far in her whole 12 years of life. but she has always been a straight A.

Third grading period:
Business Management: 97%
Spanish 3: 94%
Honors English 12: 89%
AP Calc AB: 84%
AP US Gov: 93%

Moderate senioritis.

I forgot Physics: 96%.

Geometry: 81%
Pre-AP US History: 93%
Physics H: 81%
Spanish I: 85%
Health I: 97%
Intro to Computer Applications: 95%

Last two marking periods kind of sucked
Oh well, there still good marks in my eyes.
Not ivy-like, yet again I am not going to an Ivy or trying to.

So far the last marking period is looking great :D

English H: 93%
Geometry: 86%
Pre-AP US History: 97%
Physics H: 89%
Spanish I: 83% “Meh”
Health I: 100%
Intro to Computer Applications: 100%

@herandhisMom: I go to a pretty normal public school. It’s just about good enough to offer as many opportunities as us students need, but it’s not really amazing when it comes to academics. So, getting 100’s in classes isn’t impossible, and if you study for tests, do your homework, extra credit and everything, it’s within reach. Like for example, in my Honors Algebra 2 class, there are about 3 or 4 people that had a 100 average last quarter, which includes a few people that made a 101. It’s not about being perfect and not making mistakes either, a lot of my teachers offer extra credit on tests, and since tests are worth about 50% of our grades, it’s possible to make over 100’s on our tests, and then even if we have a few 90’s or even an 80 or two, it still averages out to a 99.5 or over.
And for your daughter, I honestly think middle school is a lot harder than high school. I made B’s, C’s and even D’s in middles school, but I’ve found that a lot of teachers in high school are more lenient about assignments, late work, and everything in general. That might just be for my school, but it’s really not as bad as middle school. Being organized will help with the turning in assignments on time, I make tonss of “to-do lists” I have sticky notes on my binders with a list of all my assignments, and after a while, you get into the habit of keeping up with all your work.

GPA for last quarter is 3.7 or 3.8. one of those.

Do HS grades depend a lot on homework? Do you guys in high school have a lot of homework? I hate homework, esp. when the teachers don’t make it clear. I’m losing so many points because of stupid homework. I do fine in tests.

^ I rarely ever have homework.

In AP Econ, we have 1 assignment/quarter. In AP English, we have 0-1 homework assignments(that are graded) per quarter. In AP Biology, we have 1 homework assignment per test(usually 3-4 pages of written work) and tests occur biweekly. In computer science & mathematics, I have homework nightly.

So, homework isn’t too big of a deal in most classes, at my school, besides mathematics.

Currently for this semester:

AP Comp Sci: 97.25
Adv. (BC+MVC) Calculus: 100.08
AP Econ: 96
AP Eng Lang: 98.06
AP French Lang: 101.36
AP Biology: 100.00
AP US Hist: 101.80

i seem to be doing better each year

HG English 10: 92
Honors Chem: 97
APUSH: 93 (highest grade in all sections)
Precalc: 99
French 2: 97
AK studies:89

Why compare grades if everyone’s school is different?

At my school, all grades are capped at 100 (ie. no extra credit). As classes become more difficult, there are almost no extra credit opportunities.

We also have this brilliant teacher who believes the entire grading system is scandalous. He believes most teachers spoon-feed their students A’s and that C’s are considered average, B’s are perfectly fine grades, and A’s are phenomenal. The highest final grade in his class last year was probably a 92 or 93. His students say they hand in papers to other teachers that they know would fail in his class, but they get 100s or high A’s on them.
Plus, I’m in IB at a first-year school, which raises the bar 100x.

Kironide, I saw you post on another thread that you’re not even in the top 1%.
My grades are much lower than yours, and I’m at the top of my class.

for my school, anything over 90 is equivalent in the calculation of weighted GPAs and therefore class rank. unfortunately.

also, i checked with my counselor the other day. i’m apparently now in the top 1% with rank #4, which will hopefully go up after one more semester of an AP loaded schedule to #3.

New way to post your grades: Competitiveness of school, Estimated (or known) Avg GPA of your class, Your GPA (and rank, if known). I’ll go first:

Competitiveness: Medium high
Average GPA: ~3.4-3.6
My GPA: 4.56-4.6 (1/333)

WOW I’d be so happy!!! My teachers gave random homework at random times, then they collect things randomly. It drives me crazy. That’s why i often only get 91. :frowning: What about others, do your homework affect your grades? I mean I do almost all of them but never can remember when to turn which in!

I just got my report card yesterday, and I was pleasantly surprised to see two unexpected A+'s (bio and history).

To go with StudiousMaximus:

Competitiveness: pretty high
Average GPA: 4.4-4.6ish
My GPA: 5.65 (will be 5.75 at the end of this year) - school does not rank, but top decile

My school has a really weird GPA weighting system, where an A in “foundations” is worth 4.0, an A in standard is worth 5.0, and an A in honors is worth 6.0. And A+'s are worth an extra .3.
