graduate Studies in Quebec

Hi everyone,

I am a tunisian ( from tunisia a country in north Africa in case you don't know ),i will complete my undergraduate studies in software engineering next year,i have good grades i think ( 13.8 and 14.6 which is equivalent to a 3.4 or higher i think for my last two years ranked 2/70 stduents ) and i want to study in Quebec.

I was considering an admission in a US college but as you can maybe notice,i am not excessively fluent in english,i automatically translate words from french before speaking or writing so i don't think i can obtain good grades if i study there,i may even drop bcause of the language barrie and that eventuality scares me because i was alaways good at school i don't know how i would react.
Plus,i don't have time to prepare and pass the GRE.

So,i decided to study in Quebec,a bilingual city which will allow me to improve my english and use french if i am in a difficult situation.
I looked for information about french speaking schools but i didn't found anything interesting,i would like to apply for Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal,Universit

Tounsi, I don’t know much about grad school options in Quebec and/or in your field, really, but from what I can gather based on your post alone, your level of English seems to exceed that of many international students at American grad schools, including those in the social sciences and other fields that place more of an emphasis on really strong writing skills (more than, say, software engineering). And I’m pretty sure you’d attain fluency in English fairly quickly once “immersed”, so I wouldn’t let that stop you from considering US schools.

P.S. Maybe look at UQ

Thank you for your answer,i would love to pursue my grad studies in the US,it’s definitely the ideal destination but there is one major problem, the GRE.
All the grad schools request it,or at least highly recommend it to apply for their programm, and i don’t have time to prepare it properly because i will be working on my final project.
Anyway i will try to take the GRE and score as high as i can without preparation,i will see what i can do.

So,anyone else can give me some advices about Quebec grad schools ?

The schools you mentioned are not universities. They are CEGEP schools which is sorta like junior college in the US. its hard to explain cuz im a US student but I go to McGill University so I have some understanding of how it works. There are only 4 universities in Montreal plus the university of quebec. in montreal, theres U of Montreal, Concordia, McGill, and a 100% french speaking school.

the #1 school in canada is mcgill but the other 2 are good options as well

Thanks for answering, would you advise me to go to Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal ( U of Montreal ) or U of Sherbrooke if i am admitted ?
Which is better ?

u of montreal is HUGE so im sure research opportunties are endless

Thanks,i’ve got another question, and please just be honest with me.
I will be 24 years old when i will start my graduate programm, will i be too old for the job market when i finish ( 25/26 years old with little job experience ) ?
Because in Quebec they finish engineering at 23.

Thanks.

Just one thing, although it’s not your main question–as an international student you could take the TOEFL instead of the GRE.

Thanks a lot flyers, sorry for the delay,so i am not obliged to take the GRE for McGill or Concordia in Quebec ?

Some programs at McGill require the GRE:
“Other requirements: Some academic units may have additional requirements such as test scores (GMAT, GRE, etc.), essays or other documents. Please refer to the program page for details.”

Thanks for your answer, they don’t mention the GRE in McGill’s requirements :

Same thing for Corcordia ( which is my first choice i really hope i will be accepted there ) :

Should i pass it anyway ?
