Graduating early and needs to make a decision soon!

I am going into my junior year this September, and I need to really start looking into which colleges and universities I am going to apply to. The reason Ive decided to graduate early is because first, all of my good friends graduated at the end of my freshman year, and second, I have never really been able to take high school seriously. I am probably an above average student, I am very focused and mature for my age, and I feel that I am ready to take on something more challenging and exciting than high school.

There is a problem. I have an overall average of about a 92 (at the end of 10th grade), I have not taken any AP classes (nor will I have the time to next year ), and I have not been in any honors classes, except really for advanced French and Italian (5 years of language put together). I took the SATs at the end of my 10th grade year, and being a whole year behind (most students take their first SATs their junior year) I scored a 1440 out of 2400.

I run varsity cross country, varsity spring and winter track
I am a member of the National Honors Society as well as the Foreign Language Honors Society.

My plans are to bring my GPA to a 96+
To become a memeber of National Business and Art Honors Societies and FBLA.
To retake my SATs and score atleast a 1900.
To take my ACTs and score atleast a 30.
Also, I will do most of my community service this summer. (Goal-200+ hrs)
Even more, I am taking two classes at my community college this summer to leave room for my schedule to be a bit more complex next year.
+I know that I would be able to write a killer, original college essay

I live on Long Island but I really want to go to a university either in New york city, or upstate New york. I know that I dont really have a chance at any Ivy league schools, but what should I do to improve my resume, and which Ivy would I most likely get in. Please give me ideas and suggestions. Ive also been looking into NYC and others like it.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I am really unsure of where you would get in in terms of Ivies, I would say probably Dartmouth, Cornell, and Brown - the three easiest - would be the best shot. Frankly, I like Dartmouth because of its seclusion, but Cornell is probably easier (at least that is what i have heard). I am only sending one app to an ivy anyway, so I really haven’t looked into it. I think maybe you need to look at the University of Rochester, which is easier than an ivy. At UR, you can schedule your own classes, which might make you more driven. But really, it is where you will fit in. The value of one degree over another - unless it is Harvard or Oxford or Cambridge - is moot at the undergraduate level. PLEASE CHANCE ME! Good luck to you.

Your inability to take high school “seriously” is probably attributed to the fact that you haven’t taken any APs or Honors. If you want to go to a top school than you have to take the most rigorous course load.

In all honesty, I don’t think you have much of a chance at anything in the Top50. Not to say that it’s impossible, but going from a 1440 SAT to a 1900 is a very lofty goal. If you can manage to do that, you might have a shot at T40-50 at best.

Moreover, I simply don’t agree with the notion of graduating high school early. What is the rush? Do you really want to miss out on your senior year?
