MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Don’t bump after 28 minutes. Give people time to respond. For the future, you need to wait several days after the last response before bumping. If you are desperate to find out info in the meanwhile, you can do a search as this question has been asked many times before.
If you want to graduate early, you have to talk to your guidance counselor about what classes you need to take and in what time frame.
I don’t know if it would help to graduate early; I’m sure more experienced CCers would be able to tell you the pros and cons of taking this route. Is your family ready financially for you to graduate a year early?
I’m sorry that you’re going through a rough time with your parents. I want you to understand how dependent you will probably be on them for the foreseeable future–you need their taxes to fill out the FAFSA. You need their help to cover your EFC. You’ll probably need them throughout med school, too. Is there any way to repair your relationship?
I can do that. My relationship with my parents isn’t that bad. It’s just that they put a lot of academic pressure on me and treat me badly. Money isn’t necessarily a problem
Im just not happy living at home. Even my younger siblings treat my badly. Sometimes my parents don’t let me study and force me to go on trips and hang out with them. Note that this happens all the time and I’m taking difficult classes and can’t be free all the time. My parents also insult me by calling me fat and threatening me.
I believe you will be at a disadvantage.
You would be compared to seniors who will have taken AP classes, have test scores and many more hours in sports, activities, and coursework.
Your funding will be based on your parents tax returns and you won’t be able to apply as an independent student until you turn 24. Some schools require the the parent fill out the housing and other “adult” requirements. If you are underage, you won’t be able to do a lot on your own.
You may want to take some additional English courses because your use of grammar isn’t going to impress the schools.
If you want to graduate early, be realistic about colleges that you target for undergrad. You will be at disadvantage if you want to go to top colleges/universities. Also you may want to do research and read about path to becoming doctor. Usually recommended path is to avoid top schools in undergrad unless you are academic superstar. Also for becoming doctor patience is must as it is a long and difficult road…
Cal Poly SLO is a unique CSU since it uses different criteria for admission than the rest of the CSU’s. The CSU’s have their minimum a-g course requirements but SLO recommends above the minimum such as 5 years English, 2 years Visual/Performing Arts, 4 years Science etc… so you will be at a huge disadvantage when applying. They use MCA points to rank applicants and gives extra bonus points for HS course rigor (extra years noted) beyond the CSU minimum.
Also as mentioned by posters, that the path to becoming a Doctor is a Marathon, not a Sprint. I highly recommend you take advantage of staying in HS as long as possible so you are able to achieve your ultimate goal of getting into a good Undergrad school which will hopefully lead you to Medical school.
You are also going to require the cooperation of your parents financially especially for Undergrad since you want to keep any amount of debt to zero if possible since Medical school will be costly.
