I've begun to seriously consider WashU these days, but there's one factor that's pretty important to me. I want to graduate in 3 years (for financial reasons). I checked their credit policy and I go in with 9 credits so far, and if I can ace my AP tests this year, 15 credits. Would it be doable to graduate in 3 years, or is that suicide?

I realize many people are going to tell me that college is worth all 4 years, but please refrain. Thanks :)

If you ace your AP tests and come in with 15, I’m sure you have done the calculations to find there are 17.5 credits per semester to graduate in 3 years for you. My main piece of advice would be to look into the Freshman Summer Academic Program if your High School gets out early enough… It is 6 credits, giving you 21 to start (and lowering to 16.5 a semester) and FSAP students get priority scheduling (at least freshman year I believe) so it wont be as difficult to schedule 18 credits for some semesters… I think you could do it if you really worked hard and sacrificed some part of your social life? However, this is a personal choice, and I think its possible. Maybe a couple summer courses after this summer could help too. Hope this helps :)

I couldn’t agree more…I’m planning to attempt this as well. Basically, with your AP creds maxed you just have to take an average of around 18 credits per semester. I’ve heard/known of people even taking 22 credits at other “average” universities and coming out fine. But I don’t know how much tougher the WashU workload is.

So yea…I suppose my post just served as a bump

^you can only register for up to 21, fyi.

Is 18 credits a semester extremely difficult? If so what’s the average credits taken per semester at WashU? I was wondering about this as well.

I took 18 last semester, 17 this semester.
(With three science labs- bio, chem, and phys). So it’s definitely doable. Stressful at times, yes, but certainly possible.

I actually think the minimum number of credits I’ll ever take a semester is 17, which is why I’ll probably graduate a semester early.

Average is 15… I would imagine the difficulty depends on your major and/or which courses you decide to take. Some 3 credits are more difficult to earn than others, unfortunately/fortunately (however you want to look at it). I have heard a few people call 18 credits manageable and several people call it very, very difficult.
