Graduation Gifts - help

Well-padded headphone speakers that plug into his computer, so he can tune out his roommates' noise. They look like plastic earmuffs with soft padding around the ear part.
Bose, if you want to spend.

There was a post on this last year, but here goes: has anyone had old tee-shirts made into a quilt? I'm thinking of taking some of my D's old emo t-shirts (now that she's left that genre behind!) and having it done. There are places on-line that advertise this service (and I don't sew) - so does anyone have any pointers?

I love the "Please Send cookies!" idea. I also like the handmade quilt idea. Our daughter plays flute and has been wishing for a piccolo, so we'll spring for that. When I graded from college, my parents got me a great down sleeping bag because I loved to go camping and it is a great way for a young person to get around, low cost. How about a College Survival Kit? What would go in it?

I am SO "appropriating" the Please Send Cookies idea!

College Survival Kit content nominations (any of the following):
DUCT TAPE
surge protecting plug strips
fleece throw
gift card to book store
starbucks card
target card
bed bath and beyond card and coupons
laundry detergent
shower caddy
laundry basket
basic office supplies (stapler, file folders, scissors, etc.)
poster putty and 3M removable adhesive strips
hangers
DUCT TAPE

mafool, so why is duct tape so important?

I like the surge protector idea. I wouldn't have thought of that.

A small tool kit is a MUST as well--and computer maintenance supplies like small (eyeglass) screwdriver, screen/keyboard cleaning kit. Flashlight. Batteries.

Duct tape? Well, you never know exactly why you'll need it, but you always will! As will several hall mates.

I got my son 2 rolls of Duct tape in his school colors!

::runs and hides her head in shame::

He uses his tool kit a fair amount. When his fan didn't work, he opened it up and fixed it. A first aid kit is also great. Sure, he can go to the health center, but what if it's below zero and 2am (common conditions when my son is conscious)? Might need a bandaid or something.

yes yes yes to
first aid kit including OTC remedies
flash light, batteries
tool kit

What great ideas! The tool kit (especially the hammer) will be in great demand during move-in.

I took advice from a CC mom and included a thermometer in the first aid kit and taught my son how to use it. A high fever is probably the best single indicator of when to seek medical care.

The thermometer is a great idea and so is s tool kit and a first aid kit. Tweezers would be handy. Bethievt-duct tape in the school colors?? Who would have thought?

on the tool kit note: I got this pink "lady's tool kit" for college, and LOVE it. I think they sold it at Urban Outfitters. Getting a hammer and a couple of tools is nice, but a small kit really helps you keep everything organized.

For an inexpensive gift for girls, Bath and Body Works has nice "manicure sets" on sale - I swear they were $5 this weekend with a purchase, but are listed on the website for $10 - a simple gift alone for your kids friends, or pair it up with a giftcard.

Bath & Body Works - Manicure/Pedicure Kit - Hot Pink

My D got a pink tool kit from a relative and calls it her "Barbie tool kit" and how all her apartment roommates borrow it! I'm not sure but I believe it was purchased at either BedBath & Beyond, Linens n Things or The Container Store. (I guess that wasn't much help :) )

It is WAY cheaper to buy an assembled tool kit than to purchase the individual parts! The one I got my son included all kinds of extras like tacks, push pins, picture hanging stuff, a corkscrew (got a hard time about that from roomie's Mom!), etc.

These are such awesome ideas...I want some of this stuff!!!! :)

Just remember...you can never go wrong with gift cards. The recipient is guaranteed to get something they like, and they can't hold you responsible if it breaks or doesn't work, etc. :)

I also made sure I told roomie's Mom that son was bringing a big tool kit and first aid kit so they didn't duplicate--only so much room under the bed!
