Grammar Mistakes on UC Activities Section

Hello everyone,

When I was completing the UC app, I was making edits to my formatting and spelling to fit the character limit, but didn’t realize for 2 parts that I was typing in things, but because the cap was reached the words were not typing. For this reason I have one section which reads “is an organization owned teacher” instead of “is an organization owned by a teacher”, and one more similar error with 1 or 2 words missing. This incident has caused me an immense amount of anxiety, especially given the difficulty of getting into a UC engineering degree. I also have 1 instance where I used the wrong tense by adding an “Ed” at the end of a verb that was meant to be in the current tense. This all happened on a night my moms friend invited herself and her 5 children to stay in our home with 2 days notice, so I had absolutely no focus. Is this make or break? Should I contact the admissions office and explain myself? Please let me know.

Don’t do anything. Let it be. This won’t make or break your application, plus it’s a done deal already. Yes, the reader will realize that you didn’t perfectly edit your submission, but I don’t think that it will make a difference. After the fact, I noticed that my kid’s successful submission to a tippy top school had some suggested edits in parentheses left in the body of the submitted text. Kid (unhooked aside from a strong EC) still got in.

UC says, “you will not be evaluated on grammar, spelling or sentence structure.” I wouldn’t worry that it will affect admissions. Good luck! Personal insight questions | UC Admissions

I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. First, what is done is done. Second, from the example you used, it is easy to infer what you were trying to say. As Tamagotchi said, you are not going to be evaluated on grammar or sentence structure.
