Grammar Question Please answer

Of ancient origin, the game of checkers was played in Egypt during the time of the pharaohs and is mentioned in the writings of Homer and Plato.

Im very ambivalent towards if there is an error or not. I know there are different tenses here (was played and is mentioned) but i think i remember reading that when referring to literature, we always use the present test. Like: Bella dies in Twilight and Not : Bella died in twilight
Not that she will die xD.. im just a little mixed up. Is the sentence no error or should the is change into 'were"
thanks :)

is should be was?i think it’s an error…NO?

Isn’t ‘game of checkers’ singular? So why would you use ‘were’? I’m kind of clueless here

Sorrry i meant change it into “was” my bad xD

This looks correct to me!

This is a tense question.
Past tense verb “was” is correct because the game happened in the past.
Present tense verb “is” is correct because we use present tense to describe or explain the content of a book.
