My grandfather went to Cornell and then to their Law School.
Is this considered a legacy?

Yes, you won the lottery.
Congratulations.

Only father counts as legacy, it doesn’t matter where your grandfather went to. Sorry.

However there may still be a spot to list it. Legacy matters less and less with selective schools as they really only focus on the top categories.

You didnt hear it from me…but Johns Huntsman’s niece didn’t get into Wharton…just regular penn. And I’m 99% sure your grandfather didn’t fund an entire department (cause then you wouldn’t have asked such a question)

So does it matter if grandfather AND great grandfather went? What if grandfather didn’t fund a department, but routinely gave $ every year for over 50 years? There is definitely a space on the new common app to list grand and great grand.

And does it matter if the dad (another Ivy son may apply to) didn’t give any $? Is it true that legacy only counts in the ED round?

@my3gr8boyz: It doesn’t only count in the ED round, but it def helps more then. Using legacy during RD sounds like it’s your safety school since you have legacy.
