Grants loans. General question

Independent students who are in guardianship do not provide any income on the FAFSA from their guardians. They include only their income and assets. When the student begins the FAFSA, there will be a list of questions and one is about guardianship. When the student answers YES to that question, the FAFSA will skip all of the questions related to parent income and assets.

However, I’ve heard that some colleges that use the Profile DO ask for financial information from the guardians. I’m not clear on whether this is actually used when crafting a need based award…or not. A few years ago, a student in guardian ship had this issue with Bates, I believe.

But for the FAFSA…the uncle’s financial information will not be included.

When I’m applying for fafsa when would I have to send the proof of legal guardianship
