GRE Preparation challenges ?

Thanks for replying to my threads. Here is the background. This forum gave many insights for My son’s college journey.

He has reached a stage to explore Graduate Schools towards Astrophysics. His GPA 3.58+ with Physics Major, Astronomy Minor. He is preparing for GRE/PGRE.

He did attend General GRE coaching and working with The Princeton Review Cracking the GRE 2020 and Conquering the Physics GRE.
He was not able to find Prior year GRE test for recent years. We find only 1986, 1992, 1996, 2001 and 2008 on internet.

Are there places to go to get recent years Prior year GRE test for practice?

What are the reliable resources to help him ?

Are there any strategies to help him ?

Thanks for guidance.

This board has been a great help for all three of my sons, starting with the college application process and then for graduate school (a totally different animal). My two oldest sons used the Official Guide to the GRE General Test. It’s from ETS and contains 4 actual exams. https://www.amazon.com/Official-Guide-GRE-General-Test-dp-1259862410/dp/1259862410/ref=mt_paperback?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=

For even more official practice problems, ETS offers the Super Power Pack: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1260026396/ref=emc_b_5_i

My oldest son is at Michigan, in his second year pursuing an Aerospace Engineering PhD. My middle son is starting next week at Georgia Tech pursuing a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. My youngest son is finishing up in Materials Engineering at Iowa State and says “phooey” to graduate school.

Good luck to your son!

nothing as good as the real thing for practice. Other than that, I’m a fan of the Manhattan test prep series.

Don’t forget that the GRE underwent a significant change in 2011, so earlier tests may not be that relevant.

When you sign up/register for the GRE (which you can do several months in advance), you get access to a recent test created by ETS, which also has the same interface as the real thing. It’s a great way to prepare since it’s all first-hand knowledge. Try to stick to things created or endorsed by ETS in general.

One more thing that I didn’t know: you can take the GRE as many times as you want to and only report the best effort. This is unlike the SAT and ACT, where you have to report all scores when you send them to an institution. So you can take a real test under exam conditions for practice without reporting it.

In larger cities, the GRE is offered five days a week. However, the Physics GRE is only offered three times a year, August, September, and March.

Thanks for weighing in. My son took general GRE and got

Math 156

Writing 5

Verbal 156

He is going to take Physics GRE in OCT. He is saying above math score is not enough for Graduate admission

He has Research Experience
Published One paper
Recommendation Letters from his professors

Does he need to take General GRE again to boost Math score?

Or the above is enough to get good school physics Graduate programs?

Thanks for sharing.
