Great hockey boarding school AOF SBURY

How do schools like Avon and Salisbury stack up against one another as far as hockey, academics, and community life? Would love to get lots of insight.

Need mainly a compare/contrast. In my research I’ve seen very minimal differences between the two. Any info is appreciated!

Avon far superior to Salisbury for hockey. Salisbury not so great anymore -like most prep schools the hockey is a shadow of what it used to be. Take a look at their college commits and that gives you an idea of the strength of a program

Salisbury has won 3 New england championships in the last 4 years. Similar amount of college commitments per team. From a purely statistical standpoint they seem pretty even.

@Center what makes Avon ‘far superior’ in your eyes?

I have observed that Salisbury is not nearly as good as it used to be: nonetheless compare the rigor of their schedules and the quality of their commits. I cant recall the leagues they are in but many of these schools play with their schedules and their leagues. PM if you would like. I have hockey players too.

@Center Salisbury has been ranked higher than AOF all year, and has finished ranked higher than AOF every year since at least 2011-2012 - which is as far back as MHR goes. Not sure what you have seen that supports your conclusion. AOF won by a goal in their only meeting this year. Maybe they will match up again in the playoffs.

For purely hockey, you can look at stats, college commitments, etc., and also keep in mind that Salisbury has about 100 fewer students than AOF. However, I think to be able to compare the two schools in other respects, you have to visit and tour both. They are very similar on paper but my feeling was that there are cultural differences that are difficult to articulate. I’ve spoken with others who visited both schools and feel similarly.

Do you know anyone who’s attended either school? If so, what was their experience? @CTMom21

I know one boy at each school @powwwellla, although I’m not sure that I can describe the difference in a meaningful way due to the small sample size  My very vague impression is that Avon does have more of a jock “culture” and focus, for better or for worse. The boy that I know at Salisbury is not an athlete and went for their very well thought out academic approach.

Hi – We know (or at least know the parents of) a handful of kids at AOF, including a few boys who went to my DS’s K-8 school. No hockey players in the group, unfortunately. All of the boys are what I would consider very good, multi-sport athletes, but not necessarily prodigies. I have heard universally good things from parents about academics, faculty and overall program. We don’t know anyone who has attended Salisbury, but we have visited both schools a number of times. Feel free to PM me, and I can try to figure out how to access and respond!

I know hockey and lacrosse players at both schools as well as a baseball player. All are nice kids. I think Salisbury is more of a community feeling. The boys I know there are maybe a little “nicer” although that may not be entirely fair.
