I am searching for a college with a great music department, especially for percussion. My son is interested in drumline percussion and also orchestral percussion. A hard combination to find. Does anybody know of any?

You might want to post this question on the music major forum...where you will probably get more responses from the music folks who post there.

You might want to look into Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. They have a fabulous music school, as well as a plethora of extra curricular musical activities.

One of my son's best pals is a gifted percussionist who hopes to attend Berklee. With a 2300+ SAT and a 4.0 GPA, he has many choices, but Berklee is it for him.

Berklee is very, very, very good maybe the best at what Berklee does, but I'm not sure that I would use drumline and Berklee in the same sentence.

Eastman School of Music (in Rochester, NY). A high school friend -- a genius percussionist -- went there & has a great, prestigious (& steady!) music performance job, now.

Recreational percussionist here that seconds the vote for Eastman - my office is right across the street and I love hearing students practice in the open air once the weather gets nice (yes it is nice for a couple of months every year at least). I am not so sure about drumline, but there are a couple of corps in the Rochester area that he could join...
