Public Policy Analysis & Admin @ St. Louis U
Political Science @ UM-St. Louis

O2BPHD,

Your quant is low, and the percentile will hurt you. However, your verbal isn't bad, so that'll help. That, plus your decent analytical should help.

UM-St. Louis should be more than manageable.

What would be a standard range for a communications program (PhD) at a top school (for the discipline) like Northwestern, Purdue or Pennsylvania?

If it's anything like poli sci, it's something in the 90th percentile for all three. So, 640+ on verbal, 760 + on quant and 5.0(?)+ on analytical.

Really? That's actually quite reassuring. Does the analytical figure much? I was 690 V, 740 Q and 6.0, but I figured noone would care about the 6.0

Analytical usually isn't that big of a deal. From what I was told at the MA programs, it's the least weighted portion merely because it's so new and hard to use as a benchmark for anything. But, it's not like the 6.0 is going to hurt either one of us.

Your scores are very good, and I'd say are easily high enough for any programs. If you were looking into science or engineering programs, I'd say that the 740 was low, but for communications you're GOLDEN as far as I can tell.

Besides, even if you're borderline on the GRE, just write a kickass statement of purpose.
