I am currently choosing between the two for engineering. I don’t plan on rushing at either school, and had a few questions about being independent at both.
I’m not antisocial, I’d love to go out once or twice a week on the weekends, but I don’t really see myself in a frat at either school. If I were to go to umich or Hopkins, would I be able to find friends/party at one easier than the other? I’m just afraid that by not rushing at Michigan I won’t be able to go out and party at all, or that it’ll be much harder to do so. Any info would be great, thanks!
Hi - my son was accepted to both schools for engineering - chose to go to Michigan and planned to rush. He instead is playing IM sports, participating in some other areas, and has not felt the need to rush after all! Found a lot of social opportunities with his dorm pals and is having a great year so far. Working his tail off, but having a great time!
I don’t know about UMich, but it’s not hard to make friends at any school, I don’t think, unless you really don’t spend time with people or don’t vibe with the environment. Groups of friends at my school had dorm parties (technically against the rules), and the ones that live off-campus now have house parties, and students go to frat parties all the time (girls and guys). Well, all the time when there aren’t upcoming exams / assignments to do. 1-2x / week might not be doable every week depending on your courseload, but that sounds typical for Hopkins.
Thanks to both of you! I’m really glad to hear that going Greek isn’t necessary at either, I am planning on doing a club sports too
